Unison – Michael Hick
  Unison – Michael Hick

1. The musical interval of a perfect prime.
2. The performance of musical parts at the same pitch or at the octave.
3. A process in which all elements behave in the same way at the same time; simultaneous or synchronous parallel action.
4. In unison, in perfect accord; corresponding exactly.

In writing these pieces, I didn’t have a pre-conceived idea of what would unite them as a body of work. Stylistically, I’m not sure that they do fall into one category of music-they’re more just a representation of my attempts so far as a composer. However, there are two threads that seem to have connected the tunes; one being the literal “Unison” among voices on some tracks; the other being the more enigmatic way that the events, people, and places I encountered from the start to finish of this project have had a common link, and an influence on the outcome of the songs. Ina sense, their project is a musical narrative of the people, places, and times in my life during which most of the songs were written-starting in Boston, going to Tibet, and ending up living in Shanghai.
